Wrestling: Penn State's Matt Brown, Utah Valley honored for high grades

Matt Brown, a native of West Valley competing at Penn State, had the highest grade-point average among collegiate wrestlers, while Utah Valley was ranked 16th as the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced its annual Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams and Individual All-Academic Wrestling Team for 2012-13.

Brown, who had a 3.97 GPA in Criminology, was also named the NCAA Elite 89 award winner.

Utah Valley's wrestling squad had a team GPA of 3.09.

Harvard, led by head coach Jay Weiss, had a nation-best team GPA of 3.418. University of Nebraska - Lincoln (3.32) was next, followed by Stanford (3.25), Indiana (3.24), Virginia (3.24), Brown (3.23), Lehigh (3.23), Old Dominion (3.16), Duke (3.15) and Penn State (3.15).

UVU juniors Avery Garner and Monte Schmalhaus and senior Josh Wilson were also named to the NWCA Individual All-Academic Team as they respectively hold 3.42, 3.30 and 3.61 cumulative GPA's.
