Taylorsville • Bingham exacted a little revenge Tuesday.
Defending Class 5A state champion Weber clung to a one-run lead over the Miners for much of their 5A state playoff game.
The Warriors knocked the Miners out of last year's tourney, so Bingham returned the favor with a 3-2 victory to kick Weber into the losers bracket.
"In our pre-state meeting last night, I told them that we're going to have to come from behind, we're going to have to dig deeper," Bingham coach Mikki Jackson said.
Torre Glasker, the Miners' shortstop, started the fifth-inning rally with a single. Shea Ibrahim also singled two batters later with her team trailing 2-1. That brought up Paige Reimann with runners at second and third with two outs.
Reimann punched an opposite-field hit into right to score both, then went on to finish her complete-game pitching performance to earn the win.
"I told myself to focus, that I could do it, so I just watched it and watched it hit the bat," Reimann said about the hit. "Usually I pull it, so that was fun something different."
Weber came into the state tourney having lost seven of its last eight games, but the Warriors won their first two in the postseason.
Bingham will face Copper Hills at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the winners bracket final, while Weber will face Davis in a 3 p.m. elimination game.
"I thought we had good contact in that game and that we fought hard," Weber coach Melinda Wade said. "Now we just have to carry that into tomorrow."
