Driver critically injured when car rolls near St. George

A 31-year-old woman suffered a critical head injury after she rolled her car while driving south on Interstate 15 near St. George on Saturday, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Holly R. Ventura, of Murray, was driving south in a Nissan Maxima at high speeds at about 6:40 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve and rolled, said UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson.

Ventura was about 25 miles north of St. George when she went off the roadway and into the center divider, before over-correcting back to the right. The car shot across two lanes of traffic and into brush and rocks on the right shoulder before rolling at least 300 feet and coming to rest upside down, Johnson said.

Initial reports that Ventura had been ejected from the vehicle were incorrect, he said. Ventura was wearing a seat belt and stayed in the car. She suffered critical injuries in part due to the massive damage to her car.

Ventura was transported to a Las Vegas-area hospital by helicopter. Her condition was not known Saturday night, Johnson said.
