Six people were hospitalized, three in critical condition, in a seven-vehicle crash Monday evening outside Payson.

The crash occurred about 5:16 p.m. near mile post 248 on Interstate 15. Northbound traffic was congested in the construction zone through the Payson area, and had come to a complete stop when one vehicle crashed into another, creating a domino effect, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Three critically injured people were taken to a Payson hospital, along with one person who suffered serious injuries and two people with minor injuries. Everyone had been wearing seat belts.

The crash shut down the northbound lane for a little more than an hour, diverting traffic onto service streets before returning to I-15.
