An 18-month-old child was in very critical condition Tuesday after nearly drowning in Taylorsville.

Unified Police spokesman Ken Hansen said officers responded to 5735 S. 3365 West about 11:40 a.m. when the child's parents reported the boy missing. About noon, the child was found in a nearby pond. The officers began CPR and arriving paramedics transported the toddler to the hospital.

Hansen said the father had been with the boy in the backyard and had looked down at his laptop, during which time the boy disappeared. When he learned the boy was not with his mother, the parents called 911.

Hansen said the boy's condition had not changed as of Tuesday evening.
