Salt Lake City bars show their Pride

For many, The Utah Pride Festival — which starts today and continues through Sunday — is a favorite annual celebration. And this year there is no shortage of rainbow extravaganzas taking place. Here's what Salt Lake City bars and clubs are planning. Call or visit Facebook pages for more information and cover prices:

Club Sound • 579 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City; 801-328-0255. This 18-and-older club hosts HYDRATE, one of Salt Lake's biggest LGBTQ nights, every Friday from 9:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. The Pride edition will be hosted by Utah-based drag entertainer Nova Starr and HYDRATE regular Lance, along with a guest appearance by Chad Michaels, "RuPaul Drag Race All Stars" winner, plus DJ Justin Hollister.

Metro Bar • 540 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City; 801-652-6543. Home of the LGBTQ-friendly Fusion Saturdays. This week, for Pride, Metro will host a dance party beginning at 8 p.m. with Manila Luzon — aka Asian Glamasaurus — from "RuPaul Drag Race All Stars." The event also features the Krave Las Vegas dancers. DJ Chris B will be spinning, with DJ Justin Hollister opening.

Jam • 751 N. 300 West, Salt Lake City; 801-891-1162. This smoke-free club — with a spacious patio and some of the nicest bar bathrooms around — will hold its Pride Bear Bust Friday at 9 p.m. Hairy men and their admirers will gather for the furriest party in Utah. The event also features go-go bears and cubs. The fun continues on Saturday with a parking-lot party and extreme midget wrestling at 9 p.m.

The Green Pig Pub • 31 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City; 801-532-7441. On Sunday, don't miss Rooftop Realness, a post-parade cocktail party hosted by the notorious and much-loved SLC tranny Princess Kennedy. The party will feature DJ Flash & Flare at 2 p.m. Featured drinks will be The Raspberry Rainbow, Rehab Rita and Kennedy Kamikaze with vodka, triple sec and fresh lime.

The Trapp • 102 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City; 801-531-8727. For more than 22 years, this gay-friendly hangout has been the heart of Salt Lake City's LGBTQ community. On Sunday, at 4 p.m., it will host a steak fry. Special weekend guests are members of the Royal Court of the Golden Spike Empire — the longest-standing gay and lesbian nonprofit fundraising organization in Utah.

Club Try-Angles • 251 W. 900 South, Salt Lake City; 801-364-3203. Pride events kick off Friday with Pride Gear and Leather Night, hosted by the Wasatch Men and Boys of Leather. DJ Jacob Garcia will spin. On Saturday, there will be a float decorating party in the afternoon and a Pride Party with DJ BoyToy at night. The annual steak fry and Patio Pride Party is Sunday. The club is open all weekend from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m.

The Depot • 400 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City; 801- 355-5522. The will celebrate Pride on Saturday beginning at 9 p.m. The event, for ages 18 and older, features a fierce show by Willam, Detox and Vicky Vox from Seasons Four and Five of "RuPaul's Drag Race" including their smash hit "Boy Is a Bottom." Alyssa Edwards from Season Five will also be performing, and there will be an opening act by Salt Lake's Voodoo Productions.

Paper Moon • 3737 S. State St., South Salt Lake; 801-713-0678. The bar —which opened 18 years ago as Utah's only lesbian club — hosts its annual White Party on Friday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Guest DJ LAVISH will spin. The full-color Rainbow Bash is Saturday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. And Sunday there will be a barbecue on the patio.
