Salt Lake County Search and Rescue workers reached an injured hiker on the Mount Olympus trail early Wednesday afternoon.

Unified Police spokesman Jared Richardson said the call came in about 10:25 a.m. when other hikers found the 61-year-old man, unconscious and bleeding from the head, about a mile up the trail.

The hikers called 911. Rescuers found the man conscious and communicative, but it refused medical attention and was assisted back to the trailhead parking lot, where he was released.

Richardson said it was not immediately known specifically how the man had been injured, though he may have taken a fall.
