Salt Lake City man seriously injured in overnight shooting

Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a southeast Salt Lake City man lying on the street in a pool of blood.

Public safety dispatchers confirm a 911 call came in at 11:08 p.m. of a loud verbal fight followed by shots fired in the area of 2700 S. Highland Drive (about 1250 East).

Officers arrived to find a 40-year-old man crumpled in the middle of the road, bleeding from at least one gunshot wound to the back. There were also indications that he had been beaten prior to the shooting.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he remained in serious condition Thursday.

Detectives were investigating the incident, but did not immediately release a description of the suspect or suspects in the case.
