Salt Lake City police on Thursday identified a 43-year-old man who was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car.

Michael Apple died after his bike and the car collided at 1450 S. West Temple on Wednesday about 6:20 p.m.

Lt. Josh Scharman said the victim, who was traveling at a high rate of speed, died at the scene. The driver and passenger in the car were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

According to Scharman, the motorcycle had been reported stolen in Salt Lake County earlier Wednesday. The bike was heavily damaged in the crash.

There was a helmet at the crash scene, but Scharman did not know if Apple had been wearing it.
