With all due respect to Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and the members of the City Council who have weighed the pros and cons of a plan for a trolley through Sugar House north via 1100 East or east via 2100 South, I am not convinced that the benefits will outweigh the inconveniences to existing businesses (particularly along narrow 1100 East). Those of us who appreciate this unique settlement called Sugar House are dismayed.

Having lived in or contiguous to Sugar House for more than 50 years — using its shops, parks, pools, library, eateries and village atmosphere — I have found it a unique place that is worth preserving and worthy of further study. The plans for the streetcar can wait; we need more input.

To add a trolley with rail tracks, which are more an embellishment than an answer to access to congested Sugar House, is to say goodbye to the very place you want to reach. Please, let us not say goodbye to Sugar House.
