A motorcyclist remained in critical condition Wednesday, the day after he was struck from behind on Interstate 15 near Lehi.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said Brent McClellan, 48, of Riverton, was northbound on I-15 about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday when he was rear-ended by a Nissan Maxima in the process of changing lanes.

McClellan was knocked to the asphalt by the collision, suffering critical injuries despite his wearing a helmet. He was flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.

Johnson said that traffic at the time of the accident was congested. The Maxima changed lanes, passed another vehicle and then quickly moved back into the lane behind the motorcycle — just as traffic in that lane slowed down.

The accident remained under investigation.
