A grandmother and her grandson were uninjured when the car they were in was hit Wednesday by a FrontRunner train in Roy.

The railroad lights near 2700 West and 4800 South were flashing when the woman drove her car into the crossing, said Roy police Sgt. Kevin Smith. The guard arm came down on the trunk of the car, he said.

The driver got out of the car to try to lift the guard arm off the car, Smith said. Before she could, the FrontRunner train appeared around a corner. The woman jumped out of the way as the train struck the car while her 6-month-old grandson still was inside.

Neither the woman nor the infant was injured.

Roy police cited the woman for failure to yield at a railroad crossing.

A public safety dispatcher said the crash occurred at 11:48 a.m.
