NCAA Track and Field: BYU's Victor Weirich takes fifth in pole vault at championships

Eugene, Ore. • BYU senior Victor Weirich finished fifth in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, clearing 18 feet, 21/2 inches.

BYU's Curtis Carr qualified for the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing second in his heat in 8 minutes, 41.74 seconds. Weber State's John Coyle did not qualify for the finals, finishing 11th in his heat in 9:12.47.

Utah State's Will Henry set a school record in the 100 meters, finishing fifth in his heat in 10.25 seconds. DJ Smith set the Aggies record in the 100 (10.28) in 2007.

Henry did not qualify for the semifinals.

BYU's Ryan Waite finished eighth in his heat of the 800 (1:50.57), failing to qualify for the finals.

BYU's Natalie Stewart finished eighth in her heat of the 400 (53.84), failing to qualify for finals. BYU's Kelsey Brown narrowly missed qualifying for the 800 finals, finishing fourth in her heat in 2:04.37.
