Utah forecast: Here comes the heat, shorts ..

It's time to shed some of those layers of clothing and rub on sunscreen lotion as Utah moves toward a sun-drenched and hot weekend.

The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures around 90 degrees on Friday, up 3-5 degrees from Thursday's forecast. Partly cloudy skies are on tap for the morning hours, but by afternoon the horizons will be clear and bright.

Southern Utahns, meanwhile, will be watching the mercury soar into the low 100s, again under clear and sunny skies.

The Utah Division of Air Quality predicts "Green," or healthy breathing conditions into the weekend, and allergy sufferers will get a break, too: the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma web site rates grass pollen levels as "high," oak and mold at "moderate," and all other allergens at "low."

Salt Lake City's high temperature Friday is expected to hit 89, up from Thursday's 86 degrees; Ogden looked for 86 and 84 degrees, respectively; Provo 90 and 86; Logan 85 and 83; Wendover 89 and 86; Duchesne 86 and 81; Cedar City 90 and 89; St. George 102 and 100; and Moab 95 and 92 degrees.
