Sidney, Neb. • A Utah man has died in a motorcycle accident east of Sidney in the Nebraska Panhandle.

KNEB radio reports the body of 27-year-old Nicholas Schmit, of Grantsville, was found Wednesday along U.S. 30, about 18 miles east of Sidney.

Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says it appears that Schmit died when the motorcycle he was driving hit a sign.

Passing motorists noticed the body just after 5 a.m. and called police.

Authorities estimate Schmit died at 1:30 a.m.
