Applications are being accepted for a vacancy on the Utah Court of Appeals, resulting from the upcoming Sept. 15 retirement of Judge William Thorne Jr.
Applications must be received by the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 19.
Applicants must submit: (1) a completed application form; (2) a legal writing sample of no more than 10 pages (writing sample may be an excerpt); and (3) a two-page essay addressing the following topic: A Personal or Professional Experience That Influenced My Approach to the Practice of Law.

The Appellate Court Nominating Commission will certify to the governor a list of the seven most qualified applicants. The governor will have 30 days to appoint a judge from the seven nominees. The governor's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
