Firefighters battled heavy flames in an Ogden apartment Saturday morning before rescuing a family of dogs.

Crews arrived about 9 a.m. and found flames in a window of an apartment at 280 31st St., according to Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, Bauman said, and it did not spread beyond one room.

The residents of the apartment weren't home at the time, and no one was injured.

However, crews did find two adult pit bulls and six puppies in the home, which they rescued. Bauman added that the dogs were not injured.

Damage is estimated at $10,000. Bauman said Saturday afternoon that the cause of the fire was still under investigation. There was no indication that it was suspicious, he added.
