A power outage that affected more than 4,000 homes in Saratoga Springs was caused by birds that flew into a substation.

Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler said the birds caused three circuits to go out at about 5:20 p.m. Power was restored at about 7 p.m., she said.

Ohler estimated that about 4,200 customers went without power for close to two hours before it was eventually restored. In a statement on its Facebook page, the City of Saratoga Springs reported the outage affected most of the city and parts of Lehi and American Fork.
