Utah Valley Corey Eccles claimed his first career victory on the amateur circuit, winning the Men's Provincial Match Play Championship at the Summerlea Golf and Country Club in his native Quebec on Sunday.

Eccles bested a field of 32 golfers, defeating Mathieu Perron by a score of 3 and 2 in the tournament's final match. Perron was coming off a fourth-place finish at the Canadian University/College Championship just two weeks prior.

The tournament's 23rd seed, Eccles advanced to the second round by default when his first-round opponent withdrew from competition. In the semifinals, he prevailed in a tight, 19-hole contest against third-seeded Raoul Menard to reach the final.

As a true freshman for UVU last season, Eccles compiled the second-best scoring average on the squad at 74.79. He played in 10 tournaments for the Wolverines, finishing a season-best 15th at the BSU Dash Thomas Memorial in September.
