Iowa man dies in central Utah crash | The Salt Lake Tribune

Investigators are looking into whether an Iowa man was impaired by prescription medication when he died after his truck rolled Monday in Sevier County.

About 8:18 a.m., Steve R. Johnson, 58, was speeding west on Interstate 70 when he approached a left-hand curve near Salina and drifted into the median, witnesses told the Utah Highway Patrol. He corrected his Ford F-250 into the westbound lanes, but then over-corrected and went across the eastbound lanes and off the highway near mile post 82, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

His silver truck went down a steep embankment and rolled once it reached the frontage road at the bottom. It kept rolling into a dry creek bed lined with large rocks, which tore the cab from the frame of the truck.

Johnson was wearing a seat belt, but died instantly from injuries to his head and neck.

The crash is still under investigation. UHP is looking into the possibility that he was impaired by prescription medication.

Johnson has an address in Aurelia, Iowa.
