Baltimore • The Los Angeles Angels have activated outfielder Peter Bourjos from the 15-day disabled list, a move that will shift All-Star Mike Trout to left field when Bourjos is in the lineup.

Bourjos, who missed 38 games with a left hamstring strain, was in the starting lineup Monday night against the Orioles. He was hitting .313 with two homers and eight RBIs before his injury

Angels manager Mike Scioscia says Bourjos is a "Gold Glove-caliber" defender who improves the L.A. outfield. Trout took the change in stride, pointing out that he'd play center field on the days Bourjos didn't.

To create a roster spot for Bourjos, third baseman Chris Nelson was designated for assignment. Nelson played nine games after being claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees on May 18.
