Former Weber State basketball player hired as Wildcat assistant

Kellen McCoy, former Weber State player and Big Sky Conference MVP, was hired as an assistant coach with the Wildcat men's basketball team.

"We couldn't be more excited to have Kellen join our staff," WSU coach Randy Rahe said. "He fits us perfectly as a coach, as he did as a player. He has great work ethic and character and will be a valuable asset to our program and players. Kellen understands our culture and the expectations that we put on our players and he will be a great ambassador for our program."

McCoy will assist in all areas of the program including recruiting, scouting and player development. He comes to Weber State after spending last season as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma for coach.

As a 5-foot-6 junior in 2007-08, McCoy, a native of Norman, Okla., 8.8 points. The following season as a senior, he was named the 2009 Big Sky Conference MVP after leading Weber State to a 15-1 conference record and a conference title. He averaged 14.1 points and 2.8 assists per game as a senior and led the Big Sky in three-point field goal percentage in conference games.

In March he was named to the Weber State 50th Anniversary Team.
