The June 6 "Military Assault" editorial cartoon by Bill Shorr that compared soldiers raising of the skirt of a female soldier to soldiers raising the flag on Iwo Jima during World War II disrespects the 70,000 Marines and sailors who fought in that battle (including 19,200 who were wounded and the 6,800 who died). I hold no respect for that syndicated cartoonist or for the editors who chose to run that cartoon.

I agree that a minority of service personnel are involved in this kind of inappropriate sexual behavior, but it is a disgrace to tarnish the memory of the vast majority of our service men and women, especially those who fought in that battle.
