Re "New nominees for Utah liquor-control board" (Tribune, June 12):
I don't understand why the majority of members on Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control commission must be non-drinkers, as they always are. After all, the commission's job is to regulate consumption, not abstinence. Do we have a bunch of non-lawyers sitting on the Utah Bar?
Is this just another example of the Mormons wanting to tell their non-Mormon neighbors how to run their lives. Such busybodies.
The Mormons famously take care of their own. Less-well known is how they want to take charge of everyone else, from gays to imbibers. A little humility would go a long way. And so would trust that others not like them are also rational, reasonable, moderate souls who will not allow the extremes to run wild.
