David Simmons is the new board chairman for the Utah Sports Commission, a nonprofit organization created by the Legislature to attract national and international sporting events to the state.

Simmons, chairman and CEO of Simmons Media, will succeed J. Steven Price, president of Price Realty Group, who has been chairman since 2007, said Jeff Robbins, who directs the Sports Commission.

In other leadership changes, the Sports Commission board named Sorenson Development executive James L. Sorenson as its private-sector vice chairman and Senate President Wayne Niederhauser, R-Sandy, as its public-sector vice chairman.

Peter Mouskondis, CEO of Nicholas Co., will be the treasurer, and Steve Miller, president of Miller Sports Properties, will lead the strategic advisory committee.

Since 2002, the Sports Commission has partnered with other local organizations to support hundreds of events, providing financial assistance to more than 100 that took place in 22 Utah cities.
