Businessman in prison alleges 'shakedown' by Swallow, Shurtleff • Attorneys for Marc Sessions Jenson say their client is behind bars and facing felony charges today because he refused to go along with a "shakedown" orchestrated by Utah Attorney General John Swallow and his predecessor, Mark Shurtleff.

Despite UTA's big expansion, ridership drops • After adding $1.2 billion worth of new rail lines in the past year, the Utah Transit Authority projected that its overall ridership would be growing. Instead, it dropped — or remained flat, depending on which data or official one chooses to believe most.

Utah public preschool push gets $7 million from private investors • The United Way of Salt Lake struck a $7 million investment deal with the banking firm Goldman Sachs and J.B. Pritzker, a Chicago-based investor, to expand access to early childhood education for up to 3,700 low-income children.

Boy Scout leaders chastised for marching in Utah Pride Parade • Two weeks ago, Boy Scout leaders Peter Brownstein, Neil Whitaker and a handful of Scouts marched in the Utah Pride Parade, celebrating the organization's historic May vote to allow gay youths. This week, officials with the Great Salt Lake Council told the two men to sign an apology for "violation of (Boys Scouts of America) policies and disobedience."

Man shot inside Ogden church during domestic dispute • Ogden police were investigating why a man walked into a Catholic church during mass Sunday and shot his father-in-law in the back of the head. The suspect fled and stole a truck but was captured on I-84 when the vehicle ran out of gas.

The Utah Bucket List: Biking the White Rim Trail • Of all the adventures we set off for on The Utah Bucket List, there was only one that had me a little anxious/nervous. I don't get along well with bicycle seats, and the idea of straddling a mountain-bike saddle for four days on the White Rim Trail seemed more like a demented form of self-inflicted pain.

Utah military dads embrace change, growing families after deployment • Jason Call became a dad over Skype. Deployed to Afghanistan with the Utah National Guard's 624th Engineering Co. 1457th Battalion, he left last June when his wife, Camille, was about eight months pregnant.
