Rio de Janeiro • Players for World Cup champion Spain say they were robbed at their hotel in the Brazilian city of Recife during the Confederations Cup.

Soccer's governing body said Thursday police are investigating. FIFA spokesman Pekka Odriozola says he has no details of what happened.

Spanish media say several players were targeted. The Spanish newspaper Marca says six players, including Gerard Pique, reported that items, including money, had been stolen from their rooms. A spokeswoman for the Spanish team declined to comment.

Spain plays Uruguay on Saturday in the northern city of Recife.
