Cartoonist's Note: While I take time away from drawing to organize the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists convention http://editorialcartoonists.com/aaecweb/convention.cfm , I am featuring the work of some attendees. Mike Keefe retired from The Denver Post in 2011, the same year he won the Pulitzer Prize. He still draws for syndication.I really should say "he still draws for fun". When my youngest son was six he drew a picture of me at my drawing table and wrote (I'm correcting his creative spelling here): When I grow up I want to be a cartoonist because they have all the fun. He's right. Cartoonists hoard fun the way one-percenters do cash. Who else besides cartoonists and Ebenezer Scrooges cackle as they go about their work? Despite the uncertain times for cartoonists, we chose this job because we love it. I don't know any cartoonist who ever really retires.
