An overnight police standoff ended in Taylorsville on Friday morning when a S.W.A.T. team fired tear gas into a house where a domestic dispute had been reported.

A husband and wife had been fighting in a home at 3639 W. 5180 South about 11:50 p.m. when the husband pushed the wife down the stairs, said Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal. The wife fled to a neighbor's house and called police; the husband followed and threatened his wife and the neighbors, Hoyal said. He then returned to his home and locked himself inside, Hoyal said.

Police tried throughout the night to communicate with him, but he refused to come out, Hoyal said.

"Just after 6 a.m., S.W.A.T. deployed gas into the home, and he came out," Hoyal said.

The man was taken into custody.
