On the concluding day of the Salt Lake Arts Festival, my family enjoyed a great performance by Bandaloop. Unfortunately, just at the end of the performance, my mom collapsed from heat exhaustion and dehydration, and I went into full panic mode trying to get her help.
There was a lot of incredible help. Thanks to: the mystery woman in the blue "staff" shirt who had the sense to calm me down; the tall man who helped direct traffic; the doctors and nurses who first arrived on the scene to help get Mom positioned; the police officers who stood by; the response team from Salt Lake Regional Hospital; the festival's event coordinator; the ambulance drivers and the paramedic team; the hospital staff; and anyone else I may have overlooked.
Sometimes I get frustrated with Utah politics and its government services. Moments like yesterday remind me why I stay here. Thanks for being my people.
