South Jordan woman's body recovered from Lake Powell

A dive team from Summit County found the remains of a South Jordan woman who had been missing since a boat crash last week in southern Utah's Lake Powell.

Kane County sheriff's Sgt. Alan Alldredge said the body of 22-year-old Jessica Jackman was located and retrieved at about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.

She was found in about 350 feet of water in the same general area where debris from the boat was found, and about 23 feet from where the body of 29-year-old Valerie Bradshaw was located on Sunday.

Jackman's body was found by a Summit County Sheriff's Office team using a robotic dive robot.

The search, which also involved county and federal parks personnel, had been hampered by gusty winds on Monday that whipped the lake and forced boats back to their docks. Conditions were calmer on Tuesday, and the divers — aided by sonar and a robotic submersible — arrived late Tuesday morning.

Jackman had been missing since the crash of a motor boat with a house boat on Thursday. She suffered from Stickler syndrome, a genetic disease characterized by physical abnormality, hearing loss, and eye and joint disorders.

The crash also killed Jackman's mother, 57-year-old Marilyn Jackman, who was found dead at the scene.

Alldredge earlier reported that the motor boat's driver — Jackman's father, Adrian — may have been distracted by children onboard as he neared the houseboat, which was anchored near the Dangling Rope Marina on Thursday morning.

While the accident remained under investigation, Alldredge said it appeared that Adrian Jackman attempted to veer clear of the house boat at the last moment, but still struck its front, sending 13 people into the water in all.
