While BYU was announcing football coach Bronco Mendenhall's contract extension on Wednesday morning, the school's best basketball player was also receiving some good news. Junior guard Tyler Haws survived the cut at the Team USA tryouts at the U.S. Olympic Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and moved a step closer to making the team that will represent the U.S. at the World University Games in Russia next month. Haws was named one of 16 finalists for the team. The final cut, when the roster will be trimmed to 12 players, will come before July 1 when the team leaves for the tournament to be held July 7-16 in Kazan, Russia. The training camp runs through Sunday, with two practices a day, including one on Wednesday night. Here's the list of players who made the cut.
