Taylorsville man allegedly crushed stepfather with car

A 51-year-old Taylorsville man was in critical condition Thursday and his stepson was being questioned following what Unified Police investigators are calling a vehicular assault.

UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said Mark Peterson, 33, allegedly used his 2002 silver Chevrolet Malibu to crush the victim against a Ford Ranger, which was parked next to a home at 4734 S. 2700 West about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Hoyal said the suspect and victim had been arguing over an undetermined matter inside the house and the dispute became physical when it moved into the front yard.

"The stepson got into his car to leave [but] the stepfather got in front of his vehicle, attempting to take down the license plate number, maybe to give to police after he left, but we're not sure," Hoyal said Thursday.

The suspect's car allegedly lurched forward, pinning the victim against the Ford Ranger, and then backed away and sped from the scene.

The victim, whose name was not released, sustained extensive leg injuries and was reported at about non Thursday to be in critical condition — but improving — at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

Peterson initially fled, but called and turned himself in late Thursday afternoon.
