Verizon Wireless, the largest cellphone carrier in the U.S., announced Thursday that it has completed its 4G LTE data network in Utah, as well as in the U.S.
The network, which is used by mobile devices to surf the Internet or stream movies and music, was completed in its 500th U.S. market in Parkersburg, W.V., according to a company statement.
The faster, newer 4G LTE network is available to 298 million Americans and covers about 99 percent of its older, slower 3G network footprint.
In Utah, the carrier invested $54 million in 2012 and a total of $527 million on its cellphone network. Verizon has the largest coverage of 4G LTE in the state. AT&T is the only other carrier with a similar network.
Sprint and T-Mobile have not yet announced building one in the state.
