Utah toddler dies, father injured in Idaho plane crash

A toddler died and his father was seriously injured in an Idaho plane crash Friday.

The crash happened at 9:58 a.m. when two planes simultaneously tried to land at the Johnson Creek Airstrip, near Yellowpine, according to the Valley County Sheriff's office. The planes were about 50 feet in the air when they collided and both subsequently crashed into the airstrip.

The plane carrying the boy and his father was the higher of two aircraft, the sheriff's office reported, and came down on top of the other plane. Two Oregon men who were in the other plane suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are not releasing the victims' names as they work to notify next of kin. The toddler's father was transported via helicopter to a Boise-area hospital.

Both planes reportedly were participating in an annual "fly-in" at the airstrip.
