Roosevelt police, FBI investigate unexplained stabbing

An hour and a half before sunrise Saturday, a man walked into a Roosevelt hospital bleeding from stab wounds. When police arrived, he wouldn't talk.

Now, investigators from the Roosevelt Police Department and the FBI are trying to figure out what happened to Drew Black, who is approximately 30 years old. Roosevelt Chief Rick Harrison said Black arrived at the hospital about 4:30 a.m. and had "severe stab wounds and was bleeding."

He has since been transferred to a Salt Lake City-area hospital.

Investigators believe Black was stabbed outside of Roosevelt. The FBI is involved because it would have jurisdiction if the stabbing happened on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation.

Harrison said Black was apparently dropped off at the hospital and walked in on his own. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence as they try to piece together what happened.

According to Harrison, police do not know why Black refused to tell investigators what happened to him. Black was "recuperating" Saturday, according to Harrison.
