Re "Is Paula Deen toast in N-word controversy?" (Tribune, June 25):
Certainly the N-word is disrespectful, but what about the G-word? It is as disrespectful to those who look upon profanity as ugliness, aggressiveness and a negative message.
The most offensive profanity is the use of the name of deity that we hear everywhere as an exclamation, not adoration. Unlike the N-word, we hear it every day.
The G-word is a tool for whiners and complainers. It is used when people are surprised or even happy.
The good book says, "Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." To many, God is our best friend.
