Porch it, please

When I was a young man growing up in Ogden, I had a Salt Lake Tribune paper route. My primary concern each morning was to ensure that my customers' papers were protected. I set the paper on the front porch or, if the porch wasn't covered, inside the screen door.

On numerous mornings this past winter, which was very snowy, my paper was wet to the point of being ruined. Last Sunday, my paper was tossed onto my lawn and my sprinklers ruined it. I love the Sunday edition, so I had sections hanging around my house like laundry.

You have to be kidding me that someone tossing the paper from their car window as they drive by saves money as opposed to someone running the paper to my protected front porch.

In the future, newspapers may go extinct, and this is one reason why. Why are you driving us loyal readers away by allowing our papers to be ruined regardless of the season?

Put my paper on my front porch. That's all I ask.
