A boy killed in a weekend boating accident on Lake Powell has been identified in an obituary as 5-year-old Keaton Howard of American Fork.

Denise Shultz, spokeswoman for the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, said the boy was riding in the bow of a boat about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the vessel hit a wave. The boy fell into the lake and was struck by the boat's propeller, dying instantly.

The incident occurred up-lake from the Bullfrog Marina, near the Tapestry Wall area.

Shultz said everyone on the boat, including the boy, was wearing life vests.

Funeral services were planned for Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the American Fork West LDS Stake Center chapel, 688 W. 500 North in American Fork.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor their son donate a children's book to the American Heritage School at 736 N. 1100 East in American Fork.
