Brian Brown thinks that the Supreme Court's invalidation of the Defense of Marriage Act and allowing the invalidation of California's Proposition 8 was a "A sad day for marriage" (Opinion, June 30).

I just don't get this sound bite that gay marriage will ruin straight marriage. In simple, non-Old Testament language, how does a same-sex couple threaten a straight couple's relationship?

I have known lots of people who have gotten married, divorced, married again, divorced again, and not a single person said something like, "Well, ya know, when those queers moved in down the street, me and Jany just couldn't see any reason to stay married any longer."

And for couples who have remained together for years, not a one has said, "We've managed to stay together so long because there are no gays in the area."
