It's a bit unnerving to read many of the Public Forum letters in which the author invokes a biblical quote or religious reference to support a point of view regarding laws and policies that affect all of us. It's simply bad governance to make decisions based on one's faith and simply ignore the facts.
No matter each of our religious/spiritual beliefs, they are not facts, but beliefs. There is no proof that a God exists. Some would argue that his physical absence is proof he does not. I'm not writing to tell people their beliefs are false and that no God exists. But when people and their governments make policy decisions and create laws, they must be careful not to deny facts in order to adhere to their religious or spiritual beliefs.
For example, if you believe, and your faith believes, that homosexuality is a sin, and you push to have laws denying those individuals the same rights as you, you are denying the facts. If you believe that God is responsible for our bad air and choose not to support legislation to rectify the situation, then you are denying facts.
We live in a factual world. Let's not try to legislate as if it were something other.
