Ogden fire crews douse apartment fire; an unrelated blaze destroys a garage

Ogden City firefighters responded Friday morning to an apartment building, a blaze that was just blocks away from where an earlier fire destroyed a garage.

But fire officials said there was no indication the two fires were related.

At 9:45 a.m, fire crews responded to 548 27th Street, where they found heavy smoke coming from the rear of a building comprised of three apartments, said Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman.

All three apartments had been evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival.

The fire was burning in a utility room on the main floor of the structure.

Damage is estimated at $10,000, and the residents will be displaced for an unknown period of time while repairs are made.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Hours earlier, fire fighters extinguished a garage fire, while managing to protect an adjacent apartment building from major damage.

At 5:21 a.m., fire crews found an unattached garage engulfed in flames at 560 27th Street, said Bauman.

Of major concern was an adjacent apartment building, as well as a downed power line that was arcing on the garage, Bauman said.

The adjacent building sustained minor damage to the roof shingles from the heat, and a vehicle was damaged.

The loss that fire was estimated at $8,000. The cause remained under investigation.

No injuries were associated with either fire.
