After nearly five days of fighting, crews Saturday finally contained a southern Utah wildfire that has burned thousands of acres.
Fire crews began mopping up the Black Mountain Fire after they were able to put a complete fire line around the 4,556-acre fire, according to the Utah Interagency Fire Center. The fire had burned in Iron and Beaver counties, several miles southeast of Minersville. The fire did not destroy any buildings.
The blaze began Tuesday as the result of a lightning strike. By Saturday, nearly 300 firefighters had joined the fight.
Nick Howell, a fire information officer with the Bureau of Land Management, reported that many of those people would now be released, while others would remain to mop up the burn site.
