An open house on Salt Lake County's development of "General Plans" for Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood and Parleys canyons will be held July 17 at the County Government Center, 2001 S. State St.
From 6 p.m.-8 p.m. in the North Building's first-floor council chambers, county planners David Gellner and Todd Draper will describe the process of assembling general plans, which address three broad topics:
• Community values and goals,
• Best practices
• And programs and projects in the canyons.
In addition to the open house, planners also will accept public input at future town hall meetings and planning-commission hearings, according to the project's website: WasatchCanyons@slco.org.
County planners updated general plans for Magna, Kearns and Millcreek in 2012. But the drafting of general plans for the canyons is likely to be a lengthier process since there are conflicting ideas about how best to use the canyons and many county residents care deeply about what happens.
