Low-income and uninsured Utahns can receive free health screenings and other services at the 21st annual CARE Fair from the Junior League of Salt Lake City.

The fair is set for Friday and Saturday at the Horizonte Training & Instruction Center, 1234 S. Main St., in Salt Lake City. No appointments or proof of insurance are necessary, League spokeswoman Cindy St. Clair said in a news release. Medical and dental services will be available both days of the health fair between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The services provided for adults include breast and cervical cancer screenings for women, dental exams and mental health assessments, along with screenings for vision and hearing problems, HIV and sexually transmitted diseases, and diabetes and cholesterol testing.

Children's health services include immunizations, and dental exams with fluoride and sealant treatments. Free child car seats and bike helmets will be distributed while the supply lasts.

Free child care will be provided for parents having medical tests.

About 130,000 Utahns have no health insurance and lack access to medical and dental care. In 2012, about 2,500 men, women and children received more than 4,600 individual medical services during the fair. Of those served, 88 percent reported they had no health insurance.

The Junior League, a nonprofit organization for women, promotes volunteerism, opportunities for women and community improvement projects.
