The architect of Timpview's state championship offense won't be wearing Bingham blue after all.
Chad Van Orden, a longtime coach for the Thunderbirds' football team, said earlier this year he was headed to Bingham to work as a quarterbacks coach. Van Orden instead is off to Alta.
"I'm hoping he's going to come on and coach," Alta coach Bob Stephens said. "We're really excited, but I haven't talked to him and finalized anything."
Bingham coach Dave Peck said Van Orden accepted a job at rival Alta teaching math next year. Peck, however, said he was unsure if Van Orden planned to be a part of the Hawks' coaching staff.
Van Orden, who could not be reached immediately for comment Monday, was the coach for Timpview championships in 1991, 1997 and 2004. Last year, he was the offensive coordinator for the Thunderbirds, helping the team to a state championship win over Mountain Crest.
