Where are the wolves?

Thank you, Salt Lake Tribune, for yet another bold editorial ("Where's the money?: Cut off tax funds to anti-wolf group," Opinion, July 8).

The question is, where are the wolves? Utah doesn't even have wolves at this point, so why the rush to spend this money? Why did the Utah Legislature approve it? And where did it go?

But the biggest question for me is why the intense hatred for wolves, a keystone predator that has been proven to bring an ecosystem in which it lives back into a healthy balance? Take a look at what happened in Yellowstone after wolf reintroduction.

Plant and animal species not seen in decades reappeared. And if this is good for Yellowstone then it's also good for Utah, where you are, and California, where I am. Sound science doesn't change by state.

So let's stop this unnecessary war on wolves. There will still be plenty of ungulates to hunt. Let's give wolves the respect they deserve as keystone predators and let them live in peace.
