Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash with turning car in Castle Dale

A motorcyclist was in serious condition Thursday, the day after his Kawasaki collided with a car that suddenly made a left turn in front of him.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the motorcyclist, a 54-year-old man from Huntington, sustained a broken leg along with torso injuries that were not life-threatening.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. Wednesday on State Road 10 in Castle Dale. The motorcyclist was southbound when the northbound Nissan Altima made a left turn. The motorcycle struck the Nissan's passenger's side door.

The 33-year-old Castle Dale man driving the Nissan was unhurt.

The motorcyclist, who likely escaped more serious injury because he was wearing a helmet, was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital, UHP said.

The Nissan's driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
