A semi-trailer crashed and burned on Interstate 15 on Friday morning about 10 miles south of Brigham City. The driver escaped without injury.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the semi-trailer, registered to Associated Foods, was southbound near mile post 357 about 5:20 a.m. when it drifted into a guard rail and cement wall on the Willard Bay overpass.

"The contact caused the fuel tank on the truck to rupture and the semi jack-knifed and caught on fire, blocking both southbound lanes of I-15," Johnson said.

At first, troopers diverted traffic off the freeway at the southbound 357 exit and onto State Road 89.

Once firefighters from Willard and Brigham City doused the flames, which consumed much of the semi and its empty trailer, traffic was allowed to detour at the exit and then re-enter I-15 via the next on-ramp.

Johnson said it likely would take several hours to clear wreckage and debris from the accident scene.

No citations were issued to the 35-year-old driver, but the accident remained under investigation.
