Here's what's being talked about over the weekend in pop culture (besides the obvious, the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial):

• In the weekend's second major example of what's wrong with America today, the super-cool monster movie "Pacific Rim" came out behind Adam Sandler's latest crapfest, "Grown Ups 2," with the nation's ticket-buying public – and both trailed the weekend's top film, the animated "Despicable Me 2." • Actor Cory Monteith, whose hunky character Finn Hudson was the heart and soul of Fox's musical comedy-drama "Glee," was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room Saturday. He was 31, and had recently gone into rehab to deal with substance-abuse problems. [CNN]

• There's sudden interest over a mystery novel that was published last April, "The Cuckoo's Calling" by Robert Galbraith. The book was well-received at the time, but why the hubbub now? Because some bright person figured out that "Robert Galbraith" is a pseudonym for the real author, "Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling. [BBC]
